The Disappearing Series is a collection of paintings that highlights endangered animals facing the risk of extinction. As an artist, I hope to capture the beauty and essence of these magnificent animals while shedding light on the need to protect them and their habitats.

 

In this collection of paintings, I am working with acrylic paints. Taking advantage of the acrylic's quick-drying properties, I layer the paint covering the canvas in bold vibrant colours, using short and large brush strokes, taping, adding drips and blending. I then outlined the animal, letting the image unfold as I blocked in the shape. Outlining the animal gives it a defined form while allowing the colourful background to show through. Incorporating some of the canvas backgrounds and blending abstract elements with realistic representation highlights the interconnectedness between the animal, humans and the environment.
