Duties and Taxes
The studio is operated in Alberta, Canada and is not liable for any taxes and duties required by your country. This includes but is not limited to the commissioning of a custom piece, originals and fine art prints.
1. General Duty-Free Status The good news is that both original hand-painted artwork and art print reproductions are generally duty-free globally! Most countries recognize art and printed matter as "cultural goods" and do not charge standard import tariffs.
2. Important Note on Local Taxes & Fees While you typically won't pay a "tariff," please be aware that your local government may still assess Import VAT, GST, or local consumption taxes. Additionally, private couriers charge a brokerage or handling fee to process the package through the border for you. As the purchaser, you are the "Importer of Record," and these government taxes and service fees are your responsibility. They are not included in your checkout total and are usually collected by the courier upon delivery.
3. Art Print Reproductions Most art print orders are categorized as "paper-based goods."
-
Simplified Entry: Because these are reproduced works, they typically clear customs easily without requiring additional tax identification (like an SSN) from the buyer.
-
Shipping: I use tracked courier services to ensure your prints arrive safely. Please note that even though they are duty-free, your local customs office may still apply VAT or GST depending on your country's specific laws.
4. Original Paintings (U.S. & International Requirements) Original paintings are unique, high-value items and are subject to stricter customs verification to ensure they qualify for duty-free entry:
-
For U.S. Collectors: U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) requires a Tax Identification Number (TIN), either an SSN for individuals or an EIN for businesses, to be included on the shipping manifest.
-
International Requirements: Depending on your location (e.g., UK or EU), I may reach out to collect specific importer details required by your local authorities for high-value art.
-
Dispatch Policy: I cannot ship original paintings until this information is received, as it is a mandatory requirement to prevent the package from being held or rejected at the border.
